Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was just five when she left for Oxfordshire and went to at the Dragon School. Emma aged six when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She trained for several years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. As a ten year old Emma was already taking part in multiple Stagecoach productions and school productions. In 1999 casting began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was noticed by casting directors through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditioning for eight times. They were chosen to play three of the leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the big screen in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone made in 2001. It was also the most successful film in 2001. The opening Saturday and Sunday sales were record-breaking. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performances given by three of the main young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British paper, praised her for her performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five awards based on her performance in the film. She was the winner of her the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in an Feature Film.
